With the global economic crises and globalisation of markets, the buying behaviour of traditional and well established markets, has changed. This has made the exporting of commodity steel tube and pipe increasingly difficult and as the tube manufacturers have surplus capacity, they need to export. This requires a radical change in the tube industry from commodity products to Value Added Products.
It is essential for long term sustainability that focus is given to the development of downstream customers. Value added finished products have the potential to grow in established markets such as the EU, Australia and the USA.
The Association is actively involved in promoting exports, working closely with the Department of Trade and Industry, in trade missions, market research, trade agreements and trade shows.
During October 2011, members of STEASA participated at the TUBOTECH 2011 Trade show in Brazil and will be exhibiting at the leading trade show for tube in Dusseldorf, early in 2014.
To promote downstream development the opportunity to showcase their products under the STEASA platform will minimize the marketing cost and maximize exposure to international buyers.
